Job Summary:

The Production Supervisor 1 / Supervisor 2 provides guidance and support to team members for the purpose of achieving department goals. They accomplish results by communicating job expectations, including on the job training, monitoring work, and assessing job performance. Supervisors lead team members by coaching, counselling and supporting systems, policies and procedures.

In addition to this, the Production Supervisor 1 / Supervisor 2 assists in identifying personal and professional development needs and opportunities for team members. They promote ongoing training, preparing team members for more advanced responsibilities. The Supervisor 1 / Supervisor 2 must develop team members and their team to ensure "Permission to Play" values, uphold Duke "Core" values and strive for Duke's "Aspirational" values.

Support safety as a top priority by maintaining a safe and clean work environment; training and educating of team members on the use of all operations, equipment and resources, and maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.

Provide training and support team members in their development of personal and/or professional growth opportunities

Lead RIE Events focused on break-through improvements and execute Management for Daily Improvement (MDI) to sustain the continuous improvement culture and ensure participation from the Team. Develop long term plans for assigned areas to align with organizational goals with regard to line layout and capacity vs. demand fluctuations.

Complete the appropriate analysis to understand staffing requirements and takt time to satisfy customer demand.

Monitor key performance indicators (KPI's), utilize visual management and manage the associated improvement activities to accomplish department goals

Create, maintain and change Standard Work to closely align production output to varying levels of customer demand and promote production cell flexibility

X

X

Maintain quality services by establishing and supporting organizational standards

Ensure operation of equipment and tooling, evaluating new equipment and techniques

X

Build good relationships with internal and external customers, initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.

Collaborate with Supply Chain, Customer Service and Sales Departments to implement and execute cell-level Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning (SIOP)

Maintain staffing by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees. Pro-actively maintains succession plan for all positions in assigned areas. Especially skilled technical positions such as leads, inspectors, welders, testing, etc.

Keep employees informed on employee responsibility including conduct and discipline

X

Correct employees constructively; coaching and/or counseling as appropriate. Execute on reprimands as necessary and personal improvement plans.

Supports company decisions regardless of personal opinion

Is responsible for quick mitigation of issues related to returns, scheduling issues, material shortages, engineering issues, etc. to meet production needs.

Always learning and improving professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; reading/ researching. Has implemented/executed on take-away(s) and can show ROI.

Demonstrated ability to fill in for respective production manager when needed.

Mentors leads and/or peer supervisor where business needs determine necessary. Willing and ready to take on such stretch assignments at any given time.

Has proven ability to develop strong leads who are likely candidates for next steps in progression or strong develop in place.

Strong problem solving skills, forward thinking to anticipate potential risk before it results in missed shipment, and able to mitigate and/or inform key stakeholders of plans to address risk.

Overall highly engaged workforce in areas within span of control.

CI rotation, Bronze Certification, or clearly demonstrates CI operating system in place in areas of responsibility – KPIs in place, RIE cycles, standard work in place at takt.

Provide tangible evidence of quarterly improvement of PQDC in areas within span of control

Job Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Associate degree or equivalent experience required; Bachelor degree preferred
  2. 3-5 years of supervisory experience
  3. 5 years of operations support experience in a manufacturing environment (must include some Lean experience)
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  5. Experience using an ERP System (Oracle, SAP, Epicor)
