Sample CI Tech Rotation Job Description

CI Tech Rotation

The Rotation program allows team members the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills as it relates to process improvement strategies and tools that optimize productivity and improve the work quality and workplace culture.

Who should apply?

  • This program is a recommended development action step for Leads, although we encourage anyone interested in learning more about Duke's CI program to apply.

What can I expect?

  • Transfer of Knowledge. The knowledge that you will gain during the rotation program should be translated to the floor through the execution of Managing for Daily Improvement, developing and sustaining standard work, coaching/teaching others the tools and techniques within the Duke Business System.
  • Lead Problem Solving. Lead team problem solving activities to get to root cause using data captured by the team, coach others to learn the skills to perform root cause work independently with their teams, and to assist in developing team members to gather data.
  • Personal & Professional Development. The rotation position doesn't guarantee promotion, it is a step in your development to help yourself and others grow to learn and execute the Duke Business System.
  • Length of Assignment. The typical time period for the rotation position is 4-6 months based upon the pace at which you learn and understand the material and execution of the Lean tools and leadership skills.
  • Re-deployment. Understand that upon completion of the rotation program there is a high probability that you will be re-deployed to a different area than which you came. The objective here is to get the skills that you learn to the parts of the organization that can best utilize your knowledge.
  • Homework. The rotation position will have a recommended reading list to further your knowledge outside of actual personal experience to better understand how the principles can be applied anywhere there is a repeatable process. These are tools to support you in your development and help you become successful in your learnings and your role. You will not have time to complete these readings at work, this will have to be completed on your own time therefore this will not be required for hourly non-exempt employees.
  • Demonstrate Facilitation Skills. You will be giving training in Facilitating events to include presenting materials to teams to further their knowledge and gain the experience of delivery, people development, and leadership skills. You will be given the opportunity to demonstrate facilitation skills in leading a training event.
  • Performance Evaluation. CI will gauge the candidate's progress with a training roadmap to include regular performance feedback and a 90 day evaluation. By the end of your time in the position you will be able to coach/teach the outlined skills with limited help from the CI team. You will be responsible for good attendance habits, high professionalism and performance of the basic tech assignments.

What is the pay?

  • As this is a temporary position and a learning opportunity, there will be no change to your pay in the rotation assignment.
  • This role affords you the opportunity to further your knowledge and skills, hopefully helping you reach your career development goals over time.
