Job Summary

The HR Generalist implements Duke's human resources practices and objectives in order to provide an employee-oriented, high-performance culture that emphasizes Duke's value. They provide most HR Basics and some Competitive HR and Safety capabilities to several departments (typically not a full location) with little supervision.

 Provides accurate guidance, process development and management, advice and counsel to supervisors and exempt and non-exempt employees on human resources matters. Serves as the point of contact for a broad array of employee relations, HR and Safety subject matter areas and facilitates the resolution of employee concerns. Partners closely with the HR Services team to ensure employee records are maintained in the company Human Resources information System (HRIS)

 

Essential Functions

Support and facilitates the development of Duke's Sedalia Plant workforce

  • Manage workforce planning appropriate to the needs of the location served.
  • Partner with management to develop and maintain competencies, career paths, job descriptions, skills matrix, and sourcing pipelines, etc.
  • Maintain open communication channels both internally and externally
  • Oversee staffing and workforce development activities
  • Support and Deliver Duke training and development initiatives

Supports the development of an employee-oriented company culture that emphasizes Lean principles including quality, continuous improvement, MDI, 6S and high productivity

  • Plans and conducts new employee orientation to include completion of all documentation and correspondence prior to the starting date of new employees.
  • Support managers in onboarding planning and execution to provide new hires with a meaningful overview of Duke beyond their department.
  • Works with Nourish Our World Committee on all activities including employee engagement meetings, celebrations & special functions, recognition and support the company culture and Duke Values.
  • Lead and facilitate safety programs

Serves as Employee Relations point of contact for all Sedalia Plant employees. Assists in the development, interpretation and coordination of HR and Safety policies and programs.

  • Interprets and provides information to employees on company policies, practices, and procedures such as oversight of personnel leave practices to include basic OSHA/Safety, Worker Compensation, ADA and FMLA guidance (may refer to other SME for more complex issues).
  • Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources, safety and environmental function and ensures policies, procedure, and reporting are in compliance.
  • Monitors data in the HRIS system and related records of benefits, plan personnel transactions (such as hires, promotions, transfers) performance reviews, and terminations and employee statistics to ensure accuracy and availability for government reporting.
  • Communicate accurate information and support employees in the understanding and utilization of their company benefits and wellness programs.

Manage & support performance development and improvement efforts.  

  • Support Supervisors in the performance review process as needed.
  • Work with/ guide supervisors on employee improvement plans and/or development plans.
  • Provide guidance for Supervisors and Managers on the disciplinary process (written, final, and term decisions).

May coordinate special projects as needed to support HR and Lean continuous improvement efforts, special business initiatives or other activities as a team leader and/or member. May assist in the development of other HR personnel as needed

  • Support change management and other CI activities as needed

Job Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in HR or business related field (or 4+ years equivalent work experience in HRM disciplines and pursing degree); HR Certification(s) preferred
  2. Ability to influence and teach, to obtain results through others
  3. Excellent quantitative, analytic, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  4. Strong computer skills and application of computer programs and systems thinking
  5. Ability to plan, organize and facilitate projects, ongoing programs and events.
  6. Strong communication skills, both oral and written including ability to manage and resolve conflict effectively
  7. Knowledge and application of statistical techniques a plus.

Workplace Environmental Conditions:

  1. Typical office and manufacturing plant environment
  2. Capable of periodic overnight travel, < 20%
  3. Occasionally subject to sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to heard above the ambient noise level.
