Job Summary

 The Human Resources Specialist supports and implements Duke's HR policies and processes s in order to provide an employee-oriented, high-performance culture, emphasizing Duke's Values. Recognized as Subject Matter Expert in at least 1 HR functional area (Benefits; Recruiting; Staffing; Payroll; Safety; HR Services; HRIS) with CI and Training responsibility, depending on size and scope of location(s); requires little supervision

 Provides guidance, process management, assistance and support to managers, supervisors, exempt and non-exempt employees on HR matters. The position delivers employee training programs and recruits employees as needed.  The St. Louis HR Specialist is the primary contact for employees regarding HR tools, policies and practices and facilitates the resolution of employee concerns.  This person partners closely with the HR Services team to ensure employee records are maintained in the company Human Resources information System (HRIS)

 The HR Specialist also serves as Office Manager, in close partnership with Maintenance, to ensure Facilities support as needed  

1. Support and facilitates the staffing and development of Duke's St. Louis workforce.

  • Support workforce planning needs.
  • Support staffing and workforce development activities
  • Partner with managers, recruiter and HR team to maintain accurate HRIS.
  • Support and deliver, as needed, Duke training and development programs

2. Supports the development of an employee-oriented company culture that emphasizes Lean principles including quality, continuous improvement and high performance

  • In partnership with the Recruiter, plans and/or conducts new employee orientation to include completion of all documentation and correspondence prior to the starting date of new employees.
  • Support managers in onboarding new hires with a meaningful overview of Duke beyond their department.
  • Supports Nourish Our World (NOW) Team events, Wellness, Recognition activities such as First Tuesday celebrations, and other special functions including community-oriented and offsite events. Ensures events and functions support the company culture and values.
  • Lead and facilitate safety programs

3. Serves as Employee Relations point of contact for all St. Louis employees. Assists in the development, interpretation and coordination of HR and Safety policies and programs. Supports change management and CI activities as needed.  

  • Interprets and provides information to employees on company policies, practices, and procedures such as process guidance of personnel leave practices to include basic OSHA/Safety, Worker Compensation, ADA and FMLA guidance (may refer to other SME for more complex issues).
  • Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources, safety and environmental function and ensures policies, procedure, and reporting are in compliance.
  • Monitors data in the HRIS system and related records of benefits, plan personnel transactions (such as hires, promotions, transfers) performance reviews, and terminations and employee statistics to ensure accuracy and availability for government reporting.
  • Communicates accurate information and supports employees in the understanding and utilization of their company benefits and wellness programs.

4. May coordinate special projects as needed to support HR and Lean continuous improvement efforts, special business initiatives or other activities as a team leader and/or member.

5. Responsible for office manager duties, partnering with Maintenance to maintain facility needs as required

  • Supports various office management and facility needs such as: customer visit coordination; security and badging system administration; décor and housekeeping standards; common area and conference room oversight and maintenance; effective office supply and visitor procedures; parking assignments; employee recognition and social events; etc.

Job Qualifications

  1. Associate's degree desired; Bachelor degree (or 1-2+ years' work experience in HR disciplines and pursuing degree) preferred
  2. PHR certification preferred
  3. 2+ years recruiting, benefits or other HR or related experience required
  4. Excellent quantitative, analytic, and problem solving skills.
  5. Strong computer skills, data management and reporting, and application of computer programs and ability to train users on HRIS and other HR applications.
  6. Ability to plan, organize and facilitate projects, ongoing programs and events.
  7. Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  8. Knowledge and application of statistical techniques a plus.
  9. Overnight travel may be required, up to 10%

Tools Used to Perform Essential Functions:

  • Equipment: Personal computer, telephone, fax, copier
  • Software: Microsoft Office365, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Planner and SharePoint. iPS HRIS and Payroll/Timekeeping system and related applications; Org Chart software, PayScale and other Benefits and vendor websites.

 

Workplace Environmental Conditions:

  • Typical office and manufacturing facility environments.
  • May require periodic domestic overnight travel (<10%)
