Material Planner

Job Summary:

The Material Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling, monitoring and maintaining the flow of materials to minimize waste and align supply with demand.

Please note: The Material Planner is an hourly non-exempt level position however a Career ladder exists for this department to include a Planner 2 salary exempt level position.  The level 2 position requires advanced competencies such as leadership, problem-solving and advanced mathematical and analytical capabilities.  Educational (Associates or Bachelors) and professional certification (CPIM) are required. The Planner 2 level is a great advancement opportunity or something we can consider at hire date for fully qualified candidates.

Essential Functions:

  1. Manage all aspects of planning for assigned area
    1. Purchase/ Schedule all parts that lead to their lines
    2. Plan final assembly production rates from forecasts, order rates, order backlog, inventory, and production data to meet the SIOP.
    3. Review MRP, other planning reports, and requisitions from the production departments in order to determine fabricated parts, sub-assembly, and purchased material requirements.
    4. Create, maintain and publish production line schedules and lists with stockroom.
    5. Enter and maintain jobs that will meet final assembly production requirements, minimize inventory levels, and provide a level, valid and efficient schedule to the fabrication and sub-assembly work centers. Work with engineering technicians, configurator, custom fab and buy-outs.
    6. Release and expedite/de-expedite purchased materials and services that will meet production requirements, minimize inventory levels, and provide level, valid and efficient schedules to our vendors.
    7. Attend GEMBA with production lines, other departments to participate in improvement events, scheduling of Kanban, generally less than 30 minutes/day.
  2. Manage inventory:
    1. Establish and maintain material replenishment data and processes for each part number to assure appropriate inventory and service levels.
    2. Develop plans and coordinate efforts to continuously improve inventory record accuracy.
    3. Coordinate cycle counts.
    4. Investigate inaccurate inventory records in cooperation with Production Personnel and Engineering, focusing on identifying and eliminating root causes.
    5. Manage B counts to ensure completed 2x per year
    6. Reconcile differences in inventory
    7. Responsible for inventory adjustment decisions up to $400
    8. Monitor design and forecast changes and coordinate inventory plans to minimize obsolete inventory.
    9. Attend GEMBA to perform inventory counts for reconciliation, quarantines, verify identification of product.

Job Skills & Qualifications:

 

  1. High School or GED min req.
  2. Over 2 years manufacturing, planning, and/or scheduling experience.
  3. Basic ability to identify waste in a process
  4. Basic competency in applied mathematics
  5. Basic competency & knowledge of ERP software
  6. Good written and oral communication skills
  7. Good time management skills
  8.  

A combination of education, experience and skills will be considered.
