PC Technician

Job Summary:

The PC Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting printers, IP phones, computer hardware, software, and other communication equipment.


Essential Functions:

1. Investigates and resolves computer software and hardware problems of users.

2. Communicates with coworkers in order to research problems and find solutions.

3. Consults with and assists coworkers and manufacturer's representatives in the installation of new computer equipment; exercises responsibility for routine installation or modification projects; assists other technicians and administrators in repairing, installing and testing complex pieces of equipment or local area networks; submits equipment repair warranties. Calls software and hardware vendors to request service regarding defective products.

4. Completes work orders such as installing equipment, connecting and moving devices or creating components of autonomous networks e.g. installing disk drives.

5. Develops and maintains software and hardware inventory and tracking systems. Develops inventory lists and orders, stocks, and stores all electronic components controlled by the IT department.

6. Performs preventive maintenance for computer, data communication and/or peripheral equipment. Tests and adjusts to appropriate standards.

7. Stays current with new products and technologies.

8. Installation and support of network and VOIP infrastructure, such as data/telephone cabling and related equipment.

9. Monitor security of all technology.

10. Identify and prepare hardware for disposal when appropriate.

11. Typically works a minimum of a 40-hour workweek, with overtime as required.

12. Expected to respond to calls when not on duty, assisting users remotely or in the facility as required by circumstances.

Job Qualifications:

1. Experience: Prefer one to three (1-3) years experience in a similar position. Familiar with Mitel VOIP systems andor Zebra Printers a plus.

2. Education: An associate's degree computer science, CIS or equivalent. A+ certification a plus.

3. Skills: Ability to effectively handle customer-related complaints and issues. Ability to tolerate interruptions. Ability to be punctual and manage time effectively. Ability to pay close attention to detail.

Physical Job Requirements:

1. Communicating with employees and customers.

2. Provide individual training and support on request.

3. CarryingLifting objects up and down stairs. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

4. Stooping and crouching (bending downward and forward) while working with computer cords and cables.

5. Crawling (working in a confined space on hands and knees) while working with computer cords and cables.

Mental and Visual Job Requirements:

1. Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.

2. Ability to learn and comprehend instructions and orientation to the job.

Workplace Environmental Conditions:

1. Typical office environment, with regular exposure to plant conditions.

2. Will be required to work at a height up to 35 feet on occasion.

3. The PC Technician may have to manage a number of projects at one time and may be interrupted frequently to meet the needs and requests of clients. The PC Technician may find the environment to be busy, noisy and will need excellent organizational, time, and stress management skills to complete the required tasks.
