Product Manager

Job Summary:

Responsible for driving and supporting Duke's product strategy and execution, combining feedback from sales, marketing, development, customers and prospects to enable the strategic vision and support the Duke Lines of Business for assigned product category.  Strong leadership and influencing abilities are a must. Serves as the expert and spokesperson for assigned product(s), providing minimum viable product leadership, technical direction, market expertise, and assistance in driving overall product growth.  Manages the assigned products for full life cycle ownership from product inception to end-of-life. Formulate product marketing strategy (4P's and 5C's) and lead the execution for assigned product(s) leading multi-functional teams.  The essence of this position is to define the category business strategy and product roadmaps by developing product positioning in the market(s) and managing the full product life cycle for assigned product line(s).

Essential Functions:

  1. Serve as product expert by analyzing product requirements, costs, & customer willingness to pay (pricing and elasticity); performing technical & business analyses; and conducting return on investment (ROI) analyses.  Achieve product line results: revenue growth targets, market share, and margin targets
  2. Create product strategy and action steps to achieve the category objectives set forth by management.  Confirm strategies and action steps are consistent with marketing data and analyses to increase likelihood of market acceptance and attainment of fiscal targets.  Ensure product initiatives are aligned with corporate objectives.  Establish clear, market-driven roadmaps for the category that clearly communicate the unique selling proposition / solution using environment and voice of the customer methodologies
  3. Develop and manage the business case and ROI for the assigned product(s) to enable goal(s) attainment
  4. Specify and produce market requirement definitions for assigned products. Conduct market research on competitors and with customers, prospective customers, channel partners, sales people, & engineering.  Ongoing: continuously update & maintain market knowledge
  5. Co-Lead multi-functional internal teams to design, develop, price, position and commercialize new product introductions using Lean methodologies
  6. Own and drive the product launch process on behalf of line of business owners: track and communicated progress, manage launch costs, support sales / channel requirements, align with reliability goals and set up warranties and other product-related requirements and/or services that are necessary for product launch.  Work with the system designer and scrum master to measure the effectiveness of the launch and adjust as required
  7. Own the role of Internal/External Product Champion, including being the one primary point of contact for information on the product, target market and competition.  Provide product-specific training for customers, the sales force, product support groups, and channel partners
  8. Explore and analyze strategic partnerships and alliances for assigned category
  9. Coordinate with marketing to develop all necessary promotional tools and product collateral to assure a consistent "on-target" presentation and product communication
  10. Conduct regular analyses of product(s) to manage the full life cycle and maximize value to the market, customers, and Duke Manufacturing
  11. Proactively communicate with senior management about assigned category and product(s)
  12. Provide a leadership role in the New Business Development process, utilizing the Voice of the Customer methodology
  13. Provide a leadership role for the new product proposal A3 process

Job Qualifications:

  1. Experience: 3-5 years' experience (business to business) in product management, product development, or product marketing.  Capital goods experience strongly preferred. 3-5 year's experience developing technical products with a preference for thermal systems and food equipment. Preference for value-based pricing experience
  2. Education:  master's degree / MBA preferred, or a Bachelor's degree and relevant on-the-job training and experience. Engineering degree preferred, or relevant on-the-job experience
  3. Skills: 
    1. Ability to read, and analyze business journals, professional journals, and technical specifications
    2. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and manuals
    3. Strong ability to effectively communicate and influence groups and individuals, both internally and externally using presentations, computer / voice communication, and other communication / media formats.  Excellent grammar and language skills
