Programmer

Job Summary:

Performs duties required to provide Numerical Control programs to manufacturing by planning and writing numerical control programs; performing related NC programming and part set-up/batching activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

Plan and write numerical control programs: Analyze prints, engineering drawings, sales orders requiring non- standard parts, to determine best process of creating part in fabrication and select tooling required to fabricate parts. Determine reference points and tool paths. Compute angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outline sequence of operations required to fabricate part. Write program necessary for machine to laser cut, punch and/or bend parts that conform to prints and drawings. Observe operation of machine on trial run to prove program instructions. Revise program to eliminate instruction errors or omission or to improve efficiency and safety.

Epicor usage: Set up and maintain part routings to create parts in fabrication based on run-time provided by programming software. Cost parts to provide engineering/sales the most accurate cost of manufacturing parts. Batch parts to provide fabrication with the correct steel usage of nested parts.

Perform Related NC Programming: Maintain a program log of new and revised NC Programs. Optimize usage of steel by selecting steel sized and nesting of fabricated parts which result in the lowest possible scrap percentage.

Miscellaneous activities: The Programmer is responsible for generating steel requisition for fabricated parts.

6. Ability to work independently, manage time and prioritize work in an effective manner.
