Senior Refrigeration Technician

Duke Manufacturing Company is looking for a Refrigeration Technician to join our Engineering team at our Sedalia, Missouri location!

Job Summary -

The Senior Refrigeration Technician designs testing procedures, trouble shoots and corrects design flaws, and co-ordinates design changes for mechanical system components with engineers and vendors. The Senior Refrigeration Tech is responsible for analyzing refrigerant system data, and establishing appropriate changes as needed. They also assist Engineers and Laboratory Technicians in the research, design, and development of new products. Test and recommend appropriate changes as needed. The technician must be able to complete agency DAP data sheets and work with agency personnel to satisfy requirements.

Some of the job responsibilities include:

  • Plans sequence of in house testing on newly designed products.
  • Performs any required agency testing for agency submittal of product
  • Assists engineers in formulating test, calibration, repair, and evaluation plans for new products and their components; recommend changes as needed
  • Develop and validate new test methods
  • Evaluates returned goods to determine root cause of failures
  • Report opinions and interpretations of testing performed
  • Measures parts for conformity with specifications
  • Establishes the following: condenser sizing, compressor sizing, valve sizing, and pipe sizing.
  • Establishes refrigerant charge levels.
  • Take data and complete agency data sheets for DAP certification.
  • Maintain and run all "Test Chambers" and basic psychometric knowledge

Job qualifications & skills required:

  • HS diploma or GED required, Associates or Technical/Professional Certification preferred.
  • Universal 608 (EPA) certification preferred, or the ability to attain for the right applicant
  • Understands metering devices – TXV, AXV, EXV, Cap Tubes.
  • A clear understanding of the "Vapor Compression Cycle", - Enthalpy, Thermodynamics (super heat, sub cooling, sensible heat, latent heat, product and food loads, Airflow – CFM, Velocity-FPM, Static pressure, Velocity pressure etc.)
  • 5-10 years of commercial service and installation experience in the field, or equivalent.
  • Strong electrical wiring knowledge including wiring and wire diagrams, electric trouble shooting and controls.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and in teams as needed
  • Good math, communication and basic computer skills essential
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment (see safety rules) and stand, kneel or stoop for long periods of time.
  • Understanding of the operations of commercial and residential refrigeration systems
  • Read blueprints and electrical and electronic schematics
  • Grasp electrical and plumbing concepts
  • Operate tools, gauges and other testing equipment for refrigeration systems
  • Knowledge of basic construction methods and build techniques of food service equipment, serving systems and refrigerated equipment.
  • Refrigeration Experience – Low Temp and Mid-Temp
  • Flexible schedule may be required for shift work or weekend work.
